“Not The End” — A Beginning I Didn’t See Coming

By Francesc Borrull · December 1, 2025

I’ve been waiting a long time to write this sentence:

My debut book, Not The End, is now officially out in the world.

Both editions—the Kindle edition and the paperback edition—are now published and ready to order worldwide through Amazon. I’ve included the direct links in this post so you can access whichever format you prefer.

What Not The End Is

Not The End is a literary collection of nine interconnected stories about memory, loss, connection, and the quiet resilience that keeps people moving even when life refuses to give us neat resolutions.

The stories stand alone, but they share an emotional landscape—moments of silence, music, everyday rituals, and the weight of things unsaid. They speak to each other subtly, creating a constellation of characters and experiences that echo back and forth across the collection.

This is not a book about dramatic redemption arcs or miraculous transformations.
It is a book about the after—what remains, what must be carried, and what allows us to continue.

How the Book Came to Be

These stories were not conceived as a single project.

Some were written years apart—drafted in different homes, different states of mind, and different chapters of my life. For a long time, they lived independently: finished pieces, abandoned fragments, scenes that kept resurfacing.

But this past year, something changed. The stories started coming back to me. Certain characters and images kept insisting on being revisited. I felt strongly that these pieces belonged together—but as they were, they didn’t yet connect.

The challenge was clear: I needed to find a voice, a tone that could create cohesion without artificially forcing links or tying threads that didn’t need tying.

So I rewrote. Slowly, carefully. Story by story, I worked to bring them closer together—refining the prose, sharpening the emotional focus, and allowing a more restrained, deliberate style to emerge. A style that, I hope, lets the humanity of the characters speak without embellishment.

For a long time, I was convinced the collection needed ten stories. I pushed myself to reach that number, tried to force new material into existence—but the writing resisted. I didn’t have ten stories. I had eight that were true.

The ninth story came later, once I stopped trying to fill a quota and started listening to what the book actually needed. It became a final movement—not a summary, not a conclusion, but a quiet closure that allows the rest of the book to resonate with a different emotional depth.

That, more than anything, is what I hoped to accomplish: a collection where every story exists for a reason, and where the silences between them matter just as much as the words.

What I Hope Readers Will Find

If you decide to spend time with Not The End, here is what I hope you’ll find:

  • Characters who feel lived-in, flawed, and real.
  • A prose style that is clean, precise, and emotionally honest.
  • A sense of connection across stories that never becomes literal or heavy-handed.
  • Moments of quiet illumination—subtle, understated, but impactful.
  • A book that invites you to sit with uncertainty and complexity, rather than rushing to resolve it.

If any of that resonates with you, I wrote this book for you.

Where to Find the Book

  • Kindle edition: available worldwide.
You don’t need a Kindle device to read it—simply purchase the Kindle version and read it on any device using the free Kindle app for iOS, Android, or your web browser.

A Personal Thank You

This book exists because these stories refused to stay quiet—and because, for years now, you have allowed me to write in public, to think aloud about music, books, film, education, and all the strange ways we try to make sense of our lives.

Publishing Not The End is a milestone for me. It is also a beginning.

Thank you—for reading, for supporting, and for being here.
